This is a list of LCA member breeders in good standing. LCA member breeders agree to abide by the LCA Members Practices. The Leonberger Club of America neither recommends nor endorses breeders.
It is your responsibility as the puppy buyer, to inquire, educate, and satisfy yourself as to the quality of the breeding program. Make sure that the background of the breeding stock, the quality, health, temperament, condition, and upbringing is to your satisfaction. It is a good idea to visit the breeder before purchasing a puppy, meet the parents of the litter, the condition of the kennel surroundings, and see all paperwork (health certificates etc.) required for breeding.
The breeder in turn will most likely interview you in person, on the phone, and/or with a written questionnaire. You should be prepared to sign a puppy contract, possibly stating spay/neuter requirements and what happens to the puppy if you cannot keep it.
Your breeder should be a trusted partner over the lifetime of your new puppy.
