We will be publishing the names and category ratings of all dogs that pass through the LCA's Breeding Acceptability Check List (BACL) process. A BACL really stands for the LCA?s process of determining a dog?s breeding potential, as well as implementing the LCA?s Breeding Regulations. What most people think of when they think of a BACL is the hands-on portion. This occurs when a dog is examined by one or more qualified BACL examiners who complete a check list that attempts to completely describe the Leonberger. This can take from a half hour to an hour to complete. This is intended to be an educational experience for the dog owner and questions are encouraged.
A Leonberger must receive a Category Rating of I or II in order to be breedable within our breeding regulations. The LCA?s Category Rating System is designed to describe the breeding potential of a specific Leonberger, its strengths and faults, compared to the Standard for the Leonberger dog. A breedable LCA Leonberger must be a quality example of the breed, possess a stable temperament and be of sound health. The hands-on portion of the BACL is available at National and Regional Specialties and may be available at fun days, picnics, or other prearranged times. Email Susan Townsend at mattandsusan@hotmail.com to schedule a BACL for your dog.
