Jake’s name, Amazigh (ahm-ah-ZHAKE’), means noble defender and it typifies his personality: powerful, loving, playful, inquisitive and confident. Since completing his Grand Championship at the end of 2016, Jake rarely finished out of the ribbons, receiving a 1st Award of Merit at the 2017 AKC Westminster Show in NYC, multiple BOBs and Select Wins at shows throughout the Mid-Atlantic, and a Group 3 win in a strong Working Group in Richmond! Despite a limited show career, he was an inaugural member of the Top 20 Leonberger competition, with national rankings in both Breed and All-Breed for 2016 and achieved Top 10 All-Breed status in addition to his Top 20 Breed status for 2017. He also won Veterans honors at all of his shows after his retirement, including Best Veteran at multiple Triple Crowns and his final National Specialties. Jake has repeatedly been praised by judges for his excellent proportions, balance, strong front and rear angulations, movement and temperament. He received an “excellent” rating from Judge Thomas Walker at the 2017 LCA National Specialty, placing in the ribbons in a very strong male champion class, with comments including well-sized male with excellent proportions, excellent front and rear angulations, sound mover and excellent character. Jake also exemplifies the versatility of the Leonberger breed, and though he only began competing in performance / companion events at 5 years old, has achieved his Versatile Leonberger Excellent title with recognition in obedience, rally, weight pull, drafting, scentwork, FIT, therapy and multiple other community programs. At 11 ½, he currently continues to compete in and obtain titles for his scentwork efforts. Jake has produced multiple champions and has been a solid natural breeder, with his final natural litter of 9 puppies born 2 weeks prior to his 8 th birthday. Jake remains available at stud for select females.
